The Leap Years

A romance story on a girl who waits for her right one and stands by this belief.
"A modern day fairytale which would frustrate the realists, but hey, we all need some juvenile hope that would keep our dreams alive, isn't it?" =)

I watched The Leap Years today.
February 29 2008.
Was having proj meeting since the morning and the movie was a short break, where we returned to our meeting thereafter.
Nevertheless, it was a gd break.
After the past few trashy movies which I've caught recently in theatres, The Leap Years was a welcoming change.

A film that invites tears.
A film that will make u go "woah, so a local production can achieve such a standard?"
A film that may restore your faith in love.

I thought the best thing was that some dialogue sounded just so right. (Kudos to Catherine Lim)
I expected more though. It could have been better, i know.
I'm so going to read the book. =)

Here's some to share from my memory, so pardon it for not being true for word for word.

"Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Erm.. well.. I.."
"Waiting for the right one?"
*smiles*
"You're brave"
*puzzled*
"You're brave cos everyone else is afraid of being lonely. They want to get together with someone in order not to feel lonely. Yet, you dont mind being alone because u're waiting for the right one."

***

(Upon a matchmaking meet-up)
"My frens have an issue over my celibacy.... I'm sorry"

***

"Do you know the most commonly used word in love letters is "miss" and not "love"?"

***

The only issue i had was the dialect that filled some parts of the film. Was it really necessary? Esp. this being an English romance film. Was it injected so as to portray that local flavour?

Well anyway, maybe i'll understand more after i read the book.
Cant wait to read it.
Once everything is over.
Projects, presentations, exams.

Yes, this isn't a sem break at all.
I've been having proj meetings EVERYDAY till the wee hours.
My brain is so fried. Try having meetings till 1am for days.
As much as i love my project mates, this is really too much of an overdose, cos i dun even have much personal time.
Let alone spending time with my family or catching up with other frens whom i miss so much!
I feel like i'm treating my house as a hotel.
Even though i'm staying home this whole week, i hardly see my family cos i've only reached home at 2am to sleep, and then leave the house in the morning for meetings again.
Really sad.
Seems like a prelude to an auditor's life.

I hope we can tide over this.
Perseverance is the word.
Let everything be alright.
No matter how tough everything seems, I'm so glad it's with u all, and not any others.

Anyway, to end off, here's a track from The Leap Years' OST.

I feel like a little girl
Trying to conquer the whole wide world
Everybody wants a piece of me
And I just don't know where to turn
I've got work piled up to my head
All I want to do is jump into bed
And wash away my troubles with lemonade
Play hide and seek with the boy next door
Take a trip to Singapore
And imagine how i'll make the world a better place

All I need is a good disguise
One where nobody can recognize
That I'm feeling so small
All I need is a secret weapon
I've gotta have faith
Zapping monsters into outer space
I'm gonna be a Superhero

If I were a little girl
Trying to clean up the whole wide world
I'd kick the bad boys back to school
Teach them fighting's just not cool
I'd give every kid a teddy bear
Turn starving people into millionaires
Break glass ceilings with dynamite
Sprinkle a little sugar and spice
Turn the bullies that terrorize
Into pink poodles that bark but don't bite

Little Superhero Girl
Little Superhero Girl
Save me
Little Superhero Girl
Little Superhero Girl
Save me from myself

I feel like a little girl
Trying to conquer the whole wide world

I wonder what will make me take the leap.
I wonder how much it will take.
