VJC College Day 2006

as vj celebrates its 22nd yr, it has come up with a new tagline:
Once u come to vj, u're injected with the Victoria DNA, which comprises of Outstanding, Outperforming, Out Having Fun.

omg.

anyway, we were fed with info on how well the sch has performed over this past half yr. (as usual)
we clinched 9 sports championships and i must say that i'm very amazed that our girls' soccer team, which was established abt 1 yr ago, is the A Division Champions this yr.

so btw, college day was an affair of getting to know what the class of 2004 has achieved, rather than what we've been up to.
so the moment i stepped into college, ppl all around were asking each other "oh, so when are u flying off? uk or us?"
then for those who are in local unis, they are asked "so which scholarship are u on?" and "oh why did u choose this scholarship? and not the other one?"

bottomline: i was overwhelmingly surrounded by elites.
and there are many more elites in vj, just that they werent present.

anyway, here are updates on some ppl.

christina, my wacky senior frm piano, is on a moe teaching award and currently pursuing history in nus.
haha, i can imagine her influencing her students to become communists in future, given her HUGE passion in history.

meiqi, my interesting ogl and also frm my senior cls, is doing psychology in UCL on the singapore police force scholarship. how WOW is that...

bryna, my ogl and arts fac captain is in nus fass on a sph scholarship, despite rumours that she's in london.

lydia, xingqi's fren, is going to do medicine in nus.

surprisingly, quite a no. of girls who were there today are in ntu nbs.

as the ceremony finally ended with the vj anthem (which surprisingly, i can still rem the lyrics), some super enthu vj activist then shouted " 4, 3, 2, 1 YO VJC!"... then came the cheer which is the only one that most victorians know.
omg.
sometimes the vj spirit never dies in some activists.

after today, there seems to be no more reasons for a return to vj anymore.
the returns for this half yr to visit my juniors have been fun times.
but the concert is over, the curtain is down.

as i leave the vj campus, i realised that that chapter of my life is going to be really closed.
and a new chapter beckons.
currently waiting for bangkok photos from est.
the file is like 221135KB big, so ya, been waiting for quite long.
but anyway, wanna thank dear est for waiting with me too!
haha...

but i wanna sleep.
so i can attend college day at vj tmr, full of zest!
lol
but well, me being me, definitely unwilling to give up waiting for the photos.
so excited to see them and also wont know when's the next time i can get the photos again too! if i dont receive the whole file today.
hahaha.

alrighttttt i see hope now.
i've received more than half of the file. =)
nevermind the fact that i'm bored and sleepy now.

ahhhhh
kinda regret not going for vega's outing at sentosa today.
guess it wld have been fun.
but my health really cant make it.
and its a confirmed fact that if i went today, i definitely cant even crawl to vj tmr.
ok nvm, hope many ppl will attend the bbq next sat, despite the fact that they most prob wld want to sleep the day off, after having just returned from hall camp.
haha.

jodi's going to collect our hall room key tmr!
yay hopefully we get a room with good fengshui LOL!
oh n i'm getting quite positive now cos i keep hearing that its really sooooo near the business sch and a perfect supper place.
hahaha
but then, ya, prepare to get fat, man.
with more suppers, less sleep and less walking.
tsk tsk.

ok i'm really talking alot of crap.
its been quite long since this blog has some provoking deep thoughts.
my writing muse has vanished for quite long.
hmmmmm

when fatigue reaches over and grabs u by the neck, u'll find that u can just collapse any moment.

coming back from bangkok, it was foc.
coming back from foc, it has been outings non-stop.
meeting up with different ppl just before we all step into diff unis for a new life experience.

not enough time with family.
not enough time with myself.

of cos, i enjoy seeing all frens, knowing whats up with their own lives and spending time with them.

but.

i'm exhausted.
totally stoned.
health isnt in good form.

as uni begins to start soon, it suddenly seems like so little time but yet so many things to be done.

after a trip to ikea, jodi and i have decided that we shall have the retro theme for our hall room!
HAHAHAHAHA.

didnt buy anything in the end, cos we decided that it would be a more practical approach to see how our room is like first.
lol
so come 1st aug, plans shall take place. =)
met up with my pirateys for lunch at airport who mentioned that i've become so skinny. tsk tsk.
but aiyooo, my fav stall was closed so there's no jap salmon today!
haha.. but nvm, we still savoured lots of yummy food.

claire will try to come to the east more often to see her nice airplanes, n hopefully i wont be too stuck at the ulu shores of boonlay.
lol
then the piratey federation went to watch pirates of the carribbean 1 at ming's hs later.
haha so funny.

savvy??

anyway, so i'm in hall 4.
hope its a good thing, even though i didnt get the newer halls.
hahaha
jodi n i shall xiang yi wei ming, since we aren't gg for hall camp, n since i have no other frens in hall 4, up till now.
LOL

i.am.finally.back
finally

while my og mates haven slept in their own beds for 5 days, i haven slept in mine for TEN days!!!
omg.

been a madness rush for the past 10 days.
but they've been days filled with fun mostly.
hahaha...

walked countless miles and bought lots n lots of things in bangkok.
4 of us enjoyed the trip very much.
its simply a wonderful break.
despite getting lost while walking halfway
despite having to deal with irritating taxi drivers who try to cheat our money
despite bad shopowners who want to rip us off just cos we arent locals
i'm so pleased that we 4 girls survived well!
hahahahaha...

had wonderful food, bought pretty things, stayed in a good hotel, tried the jacuzzi there but jas n i cant figure out why it was cold.
haha.
sf n est watched a movie while in bkk n it was an eye-opener experience!
haha...

anyway, we were camera-whoring throughout the whole trip so will get them uploaded asap!
lol

now abt my freshman orientation camp (foc)
despite the constant worrying over the many many details abt foc before it has even started, foc turns out to be a interesting experience.
haha
i find myself really lucky to be able to be chosen to attend this camp cos now, i have frens who are in the same course as me alr.
and of cos, guaranteed me a chance in being able to take part in foc as a senior next yr, n tekan the freshmen!
hahaha...
(well, evil thoughts as such definitely arises after every freshman has gone thru foc. cant wait. lol)

had numerous games (some great, some not that great)
had many super horrible lunchboxes
had many smiles
had many stoned expressions cos of lack of sleep
have many bruises
have much muscle ache

7 hrs of sleep in 4 nights.
i never thought i could have managed that!
thats precisely why if there's any moment that we're free, we either have stoned expressions on our faces, or dozing off, be it sitting down blindfolded, or standing up in someplace or other.

grazed my knee during the camp n its now with wounds.
TWICE.
kevin, the co-chairman of the foc, helped to apply the antiseptic cream on my knees for 2 consecutive days.
n when we had the handshake with the exco of this foc, i was surprised he rememebered me n asked how's my knee doing.
so embarrassing man.
lol.
sigh. praying hard for no scars being left behind.

anyway, each og has 30 ppl, so its rather impossible to interact with everyone within 5 days.
but every single one made foc a wonderful time n vega a fantastic grp.
n not to forget, our seniors who put in lots of efforts. =)

found out how the secret pal game is played during orientation.
and we have to prepare a gift for that secret pal before gg for the camp.
and i find the game so funny!!! (plus, not to forget, dumb.)
lol.
no wonder uni orientation camps are sponsored by SDU.

anyway, i'm kinda frustrated at myself for not checking out the market rate of thai baht before exchanging my money.
and so, i've exchanged for the least among all 4 of us.
argh.
to think that i'm the one taking up accountancy.
to think that i've got econs knowledge and learnt abt exchange rates before.
sighhhhhhh.

-departing in abt 20 hrs time-
am becoming very nocturnal due to the world cup season.
tsk tsk.
haven even gone to bangkok, haven even gone for orientation, i alr feel like collapsing from exhaustion.
and yet, the mind is tired but cant sleep well.
arghz

well well
departing on wednesday(12th) 1305.
reaching sg on sunday(16th) 1815.
embarking on a trip which jas, sf, est and me have been talking abt since the end of our olevels. (though the destination always changes during every discussion)
lol
ok, n its finally really happening.
not just talk but no action. =)

there better NOT be any flight delays.
i have to reach boonlay on 17th at 7am!!! (for yet another 5D4N of orientation camp. omg.)
i hope i wont be in a stoned state by then, talking incoherently, brain being just a piece of blank paper.
and then, my og mates will think "whats this crazy girl popping up on the 1st day of camp, without even attending the precamp on sat and sun? maybe she shld go hougang chalet instead. (institue of mental health)"

alright alright, enough crap.

mum was scaring me during dinner with lots of hypothetical situations which i may encounter in bangkok.
and then i lost my appetite.
lol
she always began her sentences with "u all these 4 girls ah, so dangerous... later blah blah blah"
right, so i'm wishing hard that i'll have 5D4N of fun, safety and satisfaction with great buys!

and then.... freshmen orientation camp (FOC).
omg.
i'm freaking out more, after hearing abt donna's nus biz camp.
haha.
oh well.

am just wishing for the best for the next 10 days. =)

everyone, enjoy yourselves before uni starts too!

here are the pretty photos from Eighty-8! (read previous post)
haha... i know the photos are huge for my template but oh well, whatever.
kudos to ming who has been such a great help and telling me that i shouldnt be such a perfectionist when it comes to such things.
lollllll....

oh btw, the photos were taken in LT5. hahaha... i so NOT miss chem lectures =p

yr threeeees =)

relaxed non-performers

the alumni representation *applause!*

the piratey federation! (we really shld watch pirates of the carribbean tgr... lol)

sherilyn--my physics and maths lecture talk-crap buddy.. haha

everyone's fav junior---mona lisa banana wong
also my junior from ahs, she was singing the ahs sch song in my ears at the point when the photo was taken! omg.

my successor--yan ning

3 generations of chairpersons.
and so, ming suggested we sat on CHAIRS to take the photo. lol!

maril, claire, dom, ming, sherilyn, me, nat
every single one of them here played such an important part in my vj life (both in n out of the ensemble days),that if they hadnt existed, i think i would have died from depression/exhaustion/whatever-u-name-it. hahaha...really hope we'll still meet up as often as we did since graduation, be it for birthdays or concerts. esp. when i'll be the only one stuck in the ulu shores of boonlay (*sob!*). n be the 1st to enter the sad working world... if i can grad on time, that is. haha...

VJC's Piano Ensemble Annual Concert -- Eighty-8 (070706)

Last Eighty-8, i was onstage, having to take charge of so many things and freaking out over last minute glitches.
This Eighty-8, i took a backseat and was just part of the audience.

Last Eighty-8, i find it so hard to cope with the concert and my schwork when alevels are just arnd the corner.
This Eighty-8, i find myself really lucky to have survived the alevels and being able to get into a uni course of my own choice.

Last Eighty-8, i surprised myself by playing my best during the performance and earned mr ku's praise.
This Eighty-8, i hope that mr ku will have praises for my juniors too.

Last Eighty-8, i was so touched by the presence of my friends and seniors who came down to support and even bought bouquets of flowers for me. (esp. seniors who would rather miss a night of orientation than miss the concert, and friends who rushed here from elsewhere and others who stayed after lessons and hung around sch looking for things to do, just to wait for the concert to start.)
This Eighty-8, i hope that my juniors will be comforted by the presence of their own seniors and friends.

Last Eighty-8, it was a night filled with pride and happiness.
This Eighty-8, it was a night filled with nostalgia.

Next Eighty-8, where will i be? where will all my dear frens be?

hmmm... anyway, we were in a photo frenzy, seeming to make up for lost time, cos we were unable to get nice group photos last yr.
hahaha...
shall post them up soon, after i get them from ming! =)

woke up yst to find tampines raining and it really dampened my mood for east coast park.
but whew, luckily, after we reached, the weather just got better!
after the run and cycling, we went to macs to chill out and have our breakfast.

felt really good. =)

reminds me of those vj days when my classmates n i had breaks in between lessons, and then we would just cross the bridge and walk to east coast park.
reminds me of those vj days when i attended the bbqs and activities held by my different seniors at the beach.

anyway, after breakfast, we walked back to vj to drop in on our juniors' rehearsals.
haven gone into the performance theatre for quite some time alr.. haha
hope the piano concert this friday will go well.

alright, gonna meet jas later for lunch and we'll go n trim our hair tgr.
haha.. turns out that both of us had planned to go to the hairstylist today.
lol

oh n here's sth random.
xingqi told me that one of her frens(a potential future coursemate) plans to hold housewarming in ntu hall room.
hahaha.
i find it so funny, n she encouraged me to do the same too.
the thing is, i dun think any east dwellers who arent in ntu will want to travel all the way there just to attend a housewarming right.
lol

Sunday, July 02, 2006

after a weekend spent with my family, my bed, my tv, my novel, i feel so refreshed!

and tmr is east coast park day with ming, claire and nat!
yay!!!
running by the beach will feel sooooo good!
and maybe i'll cycle too, lol

the sun, sea and sand awaits! =)
(sounds like some orientation camp heading, lol)

my 7 mths of working stints finally end here today.
am officially off to enjoy the rest of my hols before i'm packed back to school. =)

from dec to feb, i was in a jap bank where i met so many nice colleagues who were so generous, always giving me treats in restaurants, doting on this xiao mei mei.
haha...
but also had to deal with different bosses with different tempers while i was transferred from one dept to another.

from end-march to end-may, i was in a french bank where i felt that i was given the most respect.
wasnt being treated just as a temp staff who's there to clear up boring admin work for them, but everything that i helped to do was very much appreciated.
the aunties love me and always gave me small lunch treats too.
boss is strict to the perm staff but treats me well since i'm just a temp staff.
even threw a farewell party on my last day.
lol

for the month of june, i worked at downtown east dealing in customer service and sales.
the most demanding job of all, the most tiring one of all.
working in a fun environment doesnt fill the job with fun, but with more stress and problems at work.
learnt how terrible/demanding/kiasu some singaporeans are.
learnt how irresponsible ppl can get.
learnt how bad office politics can be.
learnt how frustrating it can be when u meet ppl who makes life difficult and i begin to wonder if i'll have such ppl as project grp mates in future.
learnt how to communicate better with small kids.
learnt how impt it is to have ppl supporting you admist much pressure and fear and exasperation.
learnt how job satisfaction comes from the gratefulness of customers.
learnt how customers can make your day when they bother to fill up the feedback form to compliment you.
learnt that i'm more suited for office work rather than customer service.

a zillion million thanks to diana, jessie, jwen, mariah and mich for listening to ALL my grumbles and being able to understand and support me. haha..
also many many thanks to roslan, the best duty manager one can ever have, for all those rides home, all the things i've learnt, and understanding my exasperation.
lol =)
